School Visits

N. Griffin is delighted to do school visits with a wide range of participants. A full day’s visit can include up to four fifty-minute presentations; a half-day includes two. She alters her presentations depending on the age of the students involved and which of her books they’ve read.

For SMASHIE MCPERTER readers, visits are best for grades 2-5 and can include:

1. A presentation tailored to grade level, which can incorporate:

  • An interactive mystery game to explore deductive reasoning. Groups for this activity can range from 6-75 students.
  • A workshop on the process of solving difficult problems and sticking with it when it gets hard! Groups for this activity can be any size, so long as there is room for the kids to work with paper and pencil.
  • The process of writing a novel from getting an idea through the publishing process to the final book. Groups can be any size, as long as they can see me or a big screen, if you have a document camera.

2. Writing workshops for 5-25 students.

  • These can focus on generating ideas, setting, character, craft—anything that would be useful for your kids.

3. Book discussion (5-50 students who have read one of N. Griffin’s SMASHIE books).

All presentations are interactive and include Q and A time.

For rates (plus travel, meals and lodging if necessary) and availability, teachers can contact Stephane Straus at  appearances@candlewick.com. Librarians can contact Andie Krawczyk at appearances@candlewick.com.

For THE WHOLE STUPID WAY WE ARE, JUST WRECK IT ALL and TRIGGER readers, visits are best for grades 8-12 and can include:

  • The process of writing a novel from getting an idea through the publishing process to the final book. Groups can be any size, as long as they can see me or a big screen, if you have a document camera.
  • Interactive presentations tailored to your needs; past examples include what it takes to write about difficult social problems effectively so your reader doesn’t give up on your story; compassion and friendship and more. Groups for this kind of activity can be any size, so long as there is room for kids to work with paper and pencil.

2. Writing workshops for 5-25 students.
